hello,
I'm a french teacher and I'm a freesoftware user for years. I'm so despirited for the non-using of free software in France. I think it's normal to use it in Education, the freesoftware philosophy is the same than the education philosophy, a philosophy of partition. What's happend if Pythagore never partakes his theorem ?
So I would like to congratulate for your initiative.
See you

Poplog is a free, open source, relatively small (19MB download) package that supports teaching programming from the earliest stages to advanced artificial intelligence projects, and provides incremental compilers four languages (Pop-11, the core language, and probably the easiest to learn, Prolog, Common Lisp, and standard ML), as well as various libraries, tools and teaching files. It includes a text editor that can be used for reading documentation or for programming. The editor communicates directly with the compilers, and with the documentation and code libraries. Teachers can easily extend the documentation and libraries to provide their own teaching resources, building on those provided. The linux/unix version includes support for 2-d graphics. There is an earlier version for MSWindows that does not support graphics. Both are available for free dowload from here www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/projects/poplog/freepoplog.html
I hope to give a presentation on this at the up-coming unconference opensourceschools.org.uk/node/11501 (though I don't yet know if the proposal will be selected).

TCExam (http://www.tcexam.org) refers to a Computer-Based Assessment (CBA) software system (also know as CBT - Computer-Based Testing or e-exam) which is used to replace the written format test systems which are conducted in traditional educational institutions, and helps the trainers or online tutors to design their assignments and deliver them in the form of surveys, exams, tests and quizzes.
Translated in 23 languages, TCExam is the world's most widely used Free and Open Source CBA system (Sourceforge.net statistics). It's development is supported by important universities and research centers.
TCExam could help schools and universities to cut assessment-related costs while improving the quality of education, and providing more opportunities to people with disabilities.
TCExam is Open Source (GNU-GPLv3 license), Web-Based, Platform Independent, Language Independent (includes support for Right-To-Left languages) and conforms to W3C Accessibility and Usability guidelines to provide equal opportunity to people with disabilities, including blind users. It can be installed on almost any server or Web-host without any form of alteration, it's easy to use and do not require expensive hardware to run, nor additional commercial software. Moreover, since TCExam is an open source software, it is possible for users to add further translations and features to it in order to increase its efficiency in terms of functioning. For test-takers, all TCExam requires is a computer or PDA with a Web-browser (i.e. Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer) and a network connection.
