Mahara 1.1 released

Mahara

Mahara is an e-portfolio system with a flexible display framework. Built on the concept of individual student ownership it is unlike many 'top-down' orientated systems. In Mahara the learner controls who and what others can see of their collection of work, or artefacts, by establishing 'Views' or screens which they construct and share with an appropriate audience. The artefacts can of various types: documents, images, blogs, resumés, multimedia, hyperlinks, RSS feeds and contact information. So she might create different views on her work for friends, tutors or teachers and even potential employers.

Today's new release, version 1.1, provides significant enhancements over version 1.0. In particular, groups of users can now collaborate in the creation and collection of artefacts, and then creating views to be shared. In addition, it is now possible to copy Views, and make View Templates, saving time and effort.

A feature of Mahara is its integration with Moodle, the Course Management System. Currently this is limited to single sign-on, but in future students will be able to export assignments, blogs and much more straight into Mahara to use as artefacts which can then, of course, be placed into Views.
