The Mahara e-profile store which plugs in to Moodle is a great way to provide all learners with a profile of all their achievements.
It is GPLv3 licensed and there are no proposed changes to that, however they are deciding what to do about the copyright of contributions. This is an important issue and is explained in detail in a post to the Mahara forums.
I think the particularly interesting aspect of this is that it has been driven by the requirements of the New Zealand educational curriculum up to now. If UK schools start adopting it and moulding it to their requirements there will be more contributions back to the project from here. What would you think about the contributions made by or on behalf of schools having the copyright assigned over to a NZ organisation? Would the CLA be more appropriate than the CAA in this regard? (definitions of CLA and CCA are in the linked article) Does it matter?
