I hope everyone's had a great summer holiday and that the new term has started well for those of you in schools.
The unconference back in July was a great success; it was excellent for so many of us to be able to meet face to face, with so many interesting sessions throughout the day. Leon Cych (Learn 4 Life) has been very busy working on the recordings of these sessions, which we'll be uploading to the Open Source Schools site over the weeks ahead.
What have you been working on over the summer? Do you have new open source projects starting in school this term? We'd be really pleased to hear about them on the site - just add them via the create content link on the navigation menu. We'd also be very pleased to include content from members about any open source and education stories.
One of my activities during the break has been developing an introductory course on programming through Scratch for trainee teachers as part of my new role at Roehampton University - more details to follow.
So that you know when Leon’s videos, or other new content, have been uploaded, we've taken the liberty of switching on notifications for new stories for all members (this can be easily switched off via your profile on the site).
Our next event will be a seminar on innovation for local authority and national agency staff at Bletchley Park on 15th October, with an impressive range of speakers lined up already. If you work in a policy role then please do come along - see http://opensourceschools.org.uk/innovationseminar for details. Otherwise, do pass on an invitation to any of your contacts who might be interested in this.
We also have plans for a presence at BETT with a seminar on the programme for 3:45 on Wednesday 15th January, and a stand with friends from Open Forum Europe in the policy zone. Although the details are still to be confirmed, I hope that this will be able to host a number of rolling bar camp style presentations about open source projects, so please give some thought to joining us at BETT and doing a 30 minute slot on how you've used open source.
All the best for the new academic year,
Miles.
