Open Office 3.0

A new version of OpenOffice will be launched in Paris on October 13th which is also the 8th birthday of the OpenOffice Community. The new release of the free, open source office productivity suite introduces a broad range of new features aimed at enhancing compatability with commercial products. For example, Office 2007 import filters allow OpenOffice to open files created in Microsoft Office 2007. OpenOffice also supports documents in the ISO standard OpenDocument Format (ODF) and PDF/A. With version 3.0, OpenOffice is able to run on Mac OSX. Mac users have reported that OpenOffice offers a greater level of stability than leading commercial alternatives.

 

 

Other new features include enhancements to charts and improved drawing capabilities.

Version 3.0 is available to try now as a release candidate.
