Scholarpack is a complete open source MIS system for UK schools created by Garry Saddington at Skegness Grammar School and presented by him to the OSS Unconference in Nottingham on 20th July 2009. This forum topic is meant to support discussion for those implementing Scholarpack or considering an implementation of Scholarpack.
The attached presentation file was used by Garry for the Unconference.

I've been asked about Moodle Integration e.g. will Scholarpack readily generate UserIDs for Moodle. The reply from Garry is that discussions about Moodle integration are underway , but it is not on the roadmap yet.
I've been thinking about two factor authentication system for ScholarPack via sms or email and would like to know thoughts about the following.
Timing out sessions is a must because teachers have a habit of leaving themselves logged in and so if a teacher has to wait for an sms or email every time they want to log back in they will soon get fed up and not use the system. It could also get quite expensive.
So, what about having a system where each teacher is sent an additional passcode via sms on a daily basis and that passcode would be active only for 24hours after which time a new one would be issued. The phone would constitute something they have and the normal password, something they know?
I think this is a very practical solution, though I foresee a few expletives when people forget their phones. It maybe necessay to make this a bolt on for Scholarpack because teachers could find themselves wrapped up in other authentication systems like the Employee Authentication Service that DCSF was pushing for ContactPoint.
Advice please,
I have gained some commercial interest in ScholarPack. They are willing to invest in 6 figures, but that would mean proprietary licensing and a cost to schools. Given that Uk government continually change their data requirements and that this requires full time developers, can anyone suggest a way to provide an income to keep ScholarPack development going so that it is free to schools?
