There are said to be over 150,000 open source software projects. In this directory we aim to give some basic information about just a few of these, based on several criteria
- potentially useful to schools
- well established with stable software released
- in widespread use with a large user community
The directory entries are organised according to type of software, listed on the left.
More substantial lists and selections of open source software can be found at

You don't say which run on windows/mac and which only run on linux.
you might like to add www.freesoftwareforstudents.org.uk . Most apps listed are windows based, all are open source. You can also download a CD image to give to students.
You might also like to add http://www.osalt.com/
