Ulteo version 2

Ulteo have released version 2 of their Open Virtual Desktop.

Managed to get the system installed and running. There seemed to be some undocumented steps required to get this running. So had to dig through the forums to find out how to get ot working. Anyone else have issues getting it running?

Looks like a very promising system for delivering applications to thin clients in that all Linux and Windows applications run via a java enabled web browser. Any other schools interested in sharing information on to install and deploy Ulteo?

See http://www.ulteo.com/home/en/ovdi/openvirtualdesktop/features?autolang=en for more.

There is a very good guide article in this months PCPLUS magazine (issue 289) if this is helpful, I was reading it on the train this morning and thinking of how we could use this in school. It would be an excellent way of trialling thin client in schools and allow access to linux apps on windows machines etc. even in a school which seems sceptical of the benefits of using open source.

This seems to be a good alternative to Adito which we have been running for a few years. We set it up and integrated with our AD yesterday and we can launch windows and linux apps in a browser very well. Come February we plan to get the extra server power to install this instead of Adito. Meantime, if anyone runs this with any serious number fo users then please post.
