I've been teaching Design Technology and ICT since 1987, currently Head of Faculty.
I got frustrated that kids didn't have the software to do work at home other than MS Works that came with their machines. This came to a head when we started to use an MLE (Fronter) and I was asking kids to submit their work online. ". . but Sir I don't have Powerpoint, Excel, Illustrator . . ."etc
We tried getting kids to download openoffice.org, Inkscape and paint.net but many parents were suspicious that it might be illegal to download.
Consequently I downloaded a stack of open source software, put it on a CD with a web based front end and www.freesoftwareforstudents.org.uk website and CD was born. Since then I've teamed up with the guys at OpenEducationDisc as we were both producing very similar discs (in terms of content).
I don't really look like Mr Incredible except perhaps around the tummy!
